Jonathan Dahlén did not receive a new contract with the San José Sharks.
Now the SHL club stands with open arms to welcome the Swede home.
– We are ready, says Timrå’s sporting director Kimmo Kapanen.

Jonathan Dahlén got off to a great start last season. The Swede was trusted by the San José Sharks, and accounted for seven goals in his first 15 games in the NHL.

Nobbed by San José

The forward’s scoring output then slowed down, accounting for just five goals and eight assists after the fine start to the season. The nightmare then continued for Jonathan Dahlén. San José Shark announced that they do not want to extend with the Swede, who is now without a contract.

According to Sundsvalls Tidning, there are no NHL clubs that are interested in signing the Swede and he is also said to have snubbed an offer from Switzerland. It opens the door for the club he broke through in, Timrå, which is ready in case Dahlén wants to move home.

– I can say that we have talked with “Jonte” quite openly the whole time. We are just waiting for what he himself wants and when he knows it, then we are ready and can start the real talk about contracts, says Kapanen.

“Must solve it”

The local newspaper further writes that Timrå IK has already offered Dahl´én a contract. It’s something that Kapanen doesn’t want to comment on, but says that they have the money to sign the Swede.

– Absolutely. It’s our problem to solve if he decides he wants to come home. Then we have to solve it somehow, he says.
