We have already processed nearly 38,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate last year. We are used to controlling this type of product when it arrives here », assures a manager of the port of Abidjan.

This Monday morning, a technical meeting was organized at the port, led by the chief of staff of the Minister of Transport. The owner of the goods and the transporter participated as well as the administrations concerned (Mines, Agriculture, Customs and the Environment). “ The suspicion of damage actually concerned another boat which had initially transported this merchandise. », Explains another source.

Arriving in the outer harbor of Abidjan on December 30, the Zimridaa Barbados-flagged cargo ship, is carrying 20,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a hazardous material used as fertilizer in agriculture. Seven thousand tonnes are destined for Ivory Coast.
