At least 25 people were injured when a ship in the Leith dry dock in Edinburgh capsized. The cause of the accident was strong winds.
The research vessel The Petrel tilted heavily and then broke free from the dry dock completely. It lies in Leith’s Imperial Dock area at a 45 degree angle. The Scotsman magazine (you are switching to another service) says that the ship weighs 3,000 tons.
The Scottish emergency service received the first calls about the situation at around 8:30 a.m. local time. It declared the accident a major incident and sent five ambulances, an ambulance helicopter, three trauma units and other units to the scene.
15 people were taken to the hospital and ten were treated at the scene. There is no more detailed information about the condition of the people taken to the hospital.
People have been asked to stay away from the accident area and avoid hospital visits unless it is an emergency.
