Most of Jabalia lies in ruins. According to the Hamas-controlled health authorities, more than 25,000 people have now been killed in Gaza. Roughly 10,000 of them are allegedly children.

– 36 people died in one sweep. None of my kids can sleep. We lie and say what they hear are the birds. Or that there is a knock on the door. We calm them down, even if rockets fall, says Haythem Sharif.
