Finnish skier Arsi Ruuskanen crashed dangerously into the advertising fence at the World Ski Championships in Planica on Friday.
Finnish team doctor Janne Pesonen told Urheilu late on Friday evening that Ruuskanen’s leg has extensive soft tissue damage. There is no fracture in the leg.
Pesonen confirms that Ruuskanen’s World Championships in Planica are over.
– Arsi remained in the hospital for observation as a precaution. However, he is in good health. Considering the circumstances, the situation is good, Pesonen said.
Ruuskanen’s injury happened at the beginning of the men’s 30 km combined race. He was rushed to the hospital.
According to Pesonen, Ruuskanen hit the end of the advertising fence after he had drifted off the racetrack.
Finnish coach of the Peruvian national team before Hannu Lappi in an interview with Urheilu, considered the location of the billboard dangerous after a long decline.
According to Pesonen, feedback has been given about the billboard. The competition organizers have also reacted to the feedback.
– The organizers have said that the advertisements will be removed. I hope it will be removed, Pesonen stated.
Norwegian guardian Tord Hegdal previously told Urheilu how the Italian Paolo Ventura and Ruuskanen fell, after which they slid off the track.
The Italian luckily avoided the wooden advertising fence erected by the side of the track, but the Finn was not as lucky.
Arsi Ruuskanen is one of Finland’s most promising skiers. Last year, Ruuskanen won the under-23 world championship in the 15-kilometer traditional skiing competition.
