The sequel to Back to the Future 3 was released

Hardly any other sci-fi series enjoys such cult status as Back to the Future. The crazy journey through time by Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) is one of the absolute highlights of the genre. A total of three films in the series were released by 1990. What many people don’t know is that the story was continued using a simulator in an amusement park.

Back to the Future simulator continued sci-fi story over 30 years ago

As our international sister site Espinof reported, a Back to the Future sequel of a somewhat different kind existed from 1991. First in Hollywood, then also in Florida and Japan, a Theme park based on the sci-fi cult opens. Back to the Future: The Ride was a motion simulator that continued the story of the series as a 3D spectacle with its own special effects and lots of movement through hydraulics.

The plot revolves around the ultimate confrontation between Doc Brown and the big villain Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson). The story begins in 1991, where the Christopher Lloyd character founds an institute for future technology. Here, visitors are offered a test drive in the DeLorean. Doc himself travels to the year 2015 to make sure that the space-time line has not been influenced by the events in the previous films.

In addition, other scientists from the institute travel to the years 1885 and 1955, which makes everything very complicated again. Villain Biff Tannen manages to travel to the present as a stowaway.

Back to the Future: The Ride closed in Hollywood and Florida in 2007 after declining success. The Japanese branch remains open.
