The sequel could be shot right away just one thing

Edge of Tomorrow made it into two top lists from the Moviepilot editorial team: The 100 Best Movies of the Last 10 Years and The 50 Best Sci-Fi Movies Since 2000. This makes it one of the best sci-fi movies of the decade.

You can currently stream Edge of Tomorrow on Netflix. In this article we also show you what actress Emily Blunt recently said about the sequel. She gives hope, and at the same time her statement proves how complicated the situation surrounding the film is.

113 minutes of pure sci-fi action on Netflix: What is Edge of Tomorrow about?

In Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise’s character relives the same day over and over again, and that too on an alien battlefield. He teams up with a super soldier (Emily Blunt) and the two devise a plan to stave off the alien invasion. This concept works great. In addition, the two stars harmonized perfectly with each other. Naturally, genre fans have been lusting after the sequel since the film’s release in 2014.

What about the Edge of Tomorrow sequel?

Edge of Tomorrow

Emily Blunt is currently starring in the Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer. Tom Cruise plays agent Ethan Hunt for the seventh time in Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One. So the two stars of the extremely popular sci-fi blockbuster are doing well. No wonder that the sequel, which was actually planned, has been on hold for years.

However, Emily Blunt has been talking a lot about the sequel lately. In June she said:

It’s like we need to create something as ambitious as the first part. How much more can you do with the concept of repeating a day? What is the new construct?

In a new interview with Josh Horowitz, Emily Blunt sounds more upbeat again. She is fully behind the sequel: “I’m so ready. I’m not the obstacle. I promise.”

Okay, but what – or rather: who – is the obstacle then? The script? Blunt says: “There was a script that [Regisseur] Doug Liman slipped it to me… I’d love to make it a reality.”

Only Tom Cruise is stopping the sequel

The problem is, as you can probably guess, Tom Cruise’s calendar. The star seems to only live for Mission: Impossible. “[…] How many Mission: Impossible parts does Tom Cruise need?”asks Emily Blunt.

More on the subject:

So we have to hope that Tom Cruise eventually loses interest in Ethan Hunt. Maybe it won’t be that long after all. As of now, only one more part of the series is planned. The success of the films diminished. Most recently, Emily Blunt’s Oppenheimer Mission: Impossible 7 overtook at the worldwide box office.
