The Senter Party leaves the Norwegian Government

The Senter Party (SP) leaves the Norwegian government after deep disagreements with the Labor Party (AP) on the EU’s fourth energy package.

The Labor Party and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre want to partly adopt the package, which the Senter Party refused to agree.

– We say that is enough, here we draw a limit. And we do this to change Norwegian electricity politics and create a dynamic where we can take measures that can give us lower and stable electricity prices in Norway, and that we should not leave more power to the EU, Vedum tells VG.

The decision also means that Trygve Slagsvold Vedum leaves his post as finance minister.

The Entry Party’s exit does not mean that Støre’s time as prime minister is over, according to NTB. The Labor Party could continue to govern Norway as a lonely government party in a minority position.

The next election for the Storting will be held in September.
