The Washington Post newspaper wrote that in the leaked documents of the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), there is information that the Ukrainian military intelligence plans to carry out a covert attack on the Russian forces in Syria through the terrorist organization PKK / YPG, which uses the name SDG in Syria.
TRAINING PLAN FOR PKK/YPG MILITARY
The newspaper’s news, based on leaked documents, included details of the attack plans and how the process would continue if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy did not stop the operation.
In the documents, it was claimed that the Ukrainian military intelligence officers planned to carry out the attacks through these groups by training the PKK/YPG militants in northern Syria to avoid any connection with the government in the possible attack against Russia.
In the secret documents, it is stated that the PKK/YPG is willing to accept the proposal if it is guaranteed that the PKK/YPG’s role in training, logistical support, defense systems and operations will be kept secret, as well as the plans that include attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the Russian Wagner forces. It was also stated that it stipulated that no attacks should be made against Russian positions in the Kurdish regions.
ZELENSKY SUSPENDED THE PLAN
The news reported that Zelenskiy suspended his operational plans at the end of December last year, and the reasons for this were the detection of logistical difficulties such as “the issue of inter-Kurdish border control and establishing an operation center”, Ukraine’s limited supply of drones, and doubts whether the attacks would be successful. and US pressure.
The report said that if Russia “more aggressively” controls Syrian airspace or relocates its air defense weapons, such attacks would “strengthen” US coalition operations in eastern Syria.
In the commentary of the newspaper, it was stated that Ukraine, with its plan to open a new front in Syria, aims to increase the cost and casualties of the Russian and Russian security company Wagner forces active in the region, thus shifting Russian resources from Ukraine to Syria.
Aron Lund from the Century International think tank also stated that Ukraine may have wanted to gain an advantage by forcing the Russians to move forces from the Ukrainian front line to the region with the attacks on the Russian forces in Syria.
TENS OF PAGES OF DOCUMENTS LEAKED
While the documents leaked on April 7 mainly contain details about the Russia-Ukraine War, the shares that emerged over the weekend also include topics such as the activities of the US intelligence in the war, the US monitoring of Iran and China, and the listening of the talks of some allies.
It was noted in the documents, which included information that the USA had placed intelligence sources in Russian institutions, that the American intelligence officers had penetrated to the top levels of the Russian army and that they had enough control over the internal information flow to be able to predict attacks on Ukraine.
