The seaside resort faces a bikini ban can result

North of Venice, on the Adriatic Sea, lies the popular holiday paradise of Lignano Sabbiadoro. The seaside resort is known for its long picturesque sandy beaches that attract both families with children and party tourists.

But the locals are not entirely happy with the visitors, or above all their attire. Many tourists choose to take beach fashion into the city, and unabashedly strut around in swimming shorts and bikinis among shops and restaurants, writes Udine Today.

After several years of discussions, Lignano Sabbiadoro is now introducing a ban on wearing swimwear outside the beach.

The ban comes into force on Sunday and means men must wear a t-shirt with their swimming trunks and women need to wear an “appropriate top” over their swimsuit or bikini.

– We are not boring. But respect is required in a city that is focused on tourism, and above all respect for the city’s citizens, says Liliana Portellomunicipal councilor of Lignano Sabbiadoro to Udine Today.

Anyone who violates the ban risks a fine of 25 euros, approximately 290 kroner, writes 20 minutes. Anyone who repeatedly violates the dress code may be fined 500 euros, approximately SEK 5,800.
