The snow-white mountain fox Mei is on the loose in the Scanian bare ground terrain. How she got out of the enclosure in Skåne’s zoo is a mystery – the fence in the fox enclosure is intact. Was she helped by a sea eagle?

– We don’t know how she got out. But we know that a white-tailed eagle circled over the area this weekend and in the mountains it has happened that eagles have taken arctic foxes. It’s a theory, says Anna Blinkowski, zoologist at Skåne’s zoo, to Skånska Dagbladet.

When the staff at the zoo discovered on Monday morning that the one-year-old arctic fox was missing, a large search was launched, so far without success. Several people have seen the arctic fox and she has also been caught on film at Ringsjön.

– At first I thought it was some kind of puppy or marten. It was very cute and quite small. It looked at me for a while and then it went away, Anita Hernodh tells SVT Nyheter Skåne about the fox encounter.
