The Trisolaris novels by Chinese author Cixin Liu are among the most ambitious and popular works of science fiction literature in recent years. The epic sci-fi tale will be released as a $160 million Netflix series in March.
The expectations for 3 Body Problem could hardly be higher. After all, it is the new project of the Game of Thrones duo DB Weiss and David Benioff, who implemented the adaptation together with Alexander Woo as the showrunner team. The Netflix series is broadly based on the sci-fi novel The three sunsthe first book in the Trisolaris trilogy, which also includes the volumes The dark forest and Beyond time belong. But the adaptation will do a few things differently. For example, there is no longer one, but five main characters.
The story begins in China during the Cultural Revolution – with the decision of a woman named Ye Wenjie. She sends a message into space. True to the motto “As you call into the forest, it rings out” has this devastating consequences for humanity.
60 years later, five become friends in the present Oxford physicists entangled in a series of inexplicable events, after her mentor unexpectedly plunges herself to her death. Strange countdowns are driving more and more scientists around the world crazy. To get closer to solving the mystery, Team Oxford must enter the world of a futuristic virtual reality game. It soon becomes clear: humanity’s greatest crisis has begun.
When does 3 Body Problem start on Netflix?
3 Body problem starts at the March 21, 2024 with all eight episodes on Netflix. In addition to Game of Thrones actors John Bradley (Samwell), Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Jonathan Pryce (the High Sparrow), the international cast also includes MCU magicians Benedict Wong and Eiza González (Ambulance). The return of composer Ramin Djawadi also ensures musical Westeros nostalgia.

However, the first season of 3 Body Problem is only the beginning of the epic story, which was told in the original book over three novels. A second season has not yet been ordered.
