A recurring criticism of the Avatar films is their predictability. Where James Cameron on the technical side with groundbreaking images impressed, plot and characters hardly break out of the usual narrative conventions – so the accusation. In fact, there are some crazy ideas hiding in the Avatar universe.
The best example is kiri.
Who is the actress of Kiri in Avatar 2?
The character is first introduced to us in Avatar 2: The Way of Water. It’s about them daughter of dr Grace Augustine, who was one of the main characters of the first film and was played by Sigourney Weaver (known from the Alien series). The Twist: Weaver returns for Part 2 – playing both roles.

In Avatar: The Way of Water, we briefly see the Na’vi body of Dr. Grace Augustine in a big tank. Also in human form we get to see them: Kiri looks at video recordings of her own mother, who reports on her research. Most of the time, however, we see Weaver as a teenager.
Thanks to digital effects and motion capture, James Cameron can capture the 73-year-old actress easily into a Na’vi teenager transform. As bizarre as the cast may seem at first glance, there is no trace of the supposed discrepancy between Weaver and the young character she plays in the finished film.

On the contrary, Kiri, brought into the Sully family by Jake and Neytiri, is one of the best new Avatar characters. Just as intrigued as Cameron, she dives into the Underwater world of Pandora and – apart from a few annoyed comments – lets herself be driven by her enthusiasm for discoveries.
Sigourney Weaver’s Kiri becomes important in Avatar 3, 4 and 5
Who Kiri’s father is and how exactly she came into the world – these questions are pushed aside pretty quickly by Avatar: The Way of Water. Nevertheless, the Connection between Kiri and Augustine always present. Weaver not only creates a new character, but always lets traits of her late mother flare up in Kiri.
In addition, Kiri feels very connected to Eywa, Pandora’s ecological system. More than any other character, she understands the planet that humans are exploiting. It is sometimes speculated that Kiri could be the avatar of Eywa himself. If there is really something behind this theory, you will find out when Avatar 3, 3 and 4 hit the cinemas.
