The school sector is affected by the high inflation.
Now the government is giving an extra half a billion to the school in the spring budget.
– It is support for the municipalities in a difficult time while we are still having an economic winter in Sweden, says Liberal party leader Johan Pehrson.
The government pushes SEK 500 million to the school in the spring amendment budget – to ease the inflationary pressure in the school sector.
– We see that schools in Sweden are in great need of relief, we want to see more teachers remain in school in this difficult financial situation, says Johan Pehrson (L).
The background is the tough economic situation.
– This is aimed at teachers, but you can use the resources widely, so it is up to each municipality, but it is a support for the municipalities in a difficult time while we are still having an economic winter in Sweden.
The union wants 4 billion
The increased funding could lead to 1,300 teachers being able to keep their jobs. But according to the Swedish Teachers’ Union, the municipalities need at least 4 billion extra for the school in the spring budget, in order to cope with the increased costs.
Johan Pehrson believes that the extra millions should still be desirable.
– They certainly want more resources, but you have to remember that municipalities have responsibility for Swedish schools. The state co-finances a small part and now we are pushing for additional resources, 500 million for 2024, and that should be a welcome support.
