The Sámi Grand Prix will be part of the mello spring: “Let’s do it”

Sámi Grand Prix, the Sámi melody festival that takes place on Easter Eve every year, will be seen more on the Swedish side of Sápmi in 2024 and there will be a warm-up with a pre-program on SVT.

– It will be part of the middle year and will also be in the mello app, says Natalie Carrion, who welcomes SVT’s initiative.

On the Swedish side, viewers will be able to vote through the mello app – just like during Melodifestivalen’s various sub-competitions. The team behind the venture hopes that this will lead to increased viewing.

“Let’s do it”

On Saturday night, Natalie Carrion took the opportunity to strike a blow for the Sámi Grand Prix also in Musikhjälpen, which ends on Sunday.

When Carrion herself competed in 2022, she saw the big difference between the place the program got on the Norwegian and Swedish sides.

She then directed sharp criticism at SVT and said that it was time to “level up”.

– Now you do it like “let’s do it!”

Feel safe

Last year, together with William Stenfall Zetterström, she had to comment on SGP in Swedish. But, among other things, poor sound quality and Swedish that was heard over the Sami, which meant that the production received quite a lot of criticism.

– Now it’s a completely different budget and there’s a good group working on this production. I feel confident that we will deliver something of a very high class with respect for the Sami.
