Until now, the homeless and poorly housed in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of Paris, had to cross the ring road to be able to wash, the capital being the only city in the Île-de-France region to have preserved shower baths. Built between the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, these free public toilets were gradually closed with the rise of individual showers or bathrooms. But in Saint-Denis, the need expressed by a segment of the population prompted the municipality to put public showers back into service.
