The safest airlines in the world: 2022 ranking

The safest airlines in the world 2022 ranking

Every year, several rankings assess the safety of airlines according to well-defined criteria. Travel on board the safest ones by discovering the 2022 ranking of the Airline Ratings site.

Each year, the rankings of the safest airlines are eagerly awaited. With precise and concrete information on the different air carriers, they allow travelers to choose the best company for their next vacation. Operational safety, age of the fleet, safety audits… So many criteria that allow carriers to stand out from their competitors and attract new customers. While some airlines such as Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific are regularly in the top 20 safest in the world, others continue to rise and climb the ladder year after year.

Airline Ratings published in early January 2022 its ranking of the 20 safest airlines in the world, out of 385 analyzed. Since 2013, the consumer opinion aggregator has evaluated their reliability each year using a seven-star rating system based on several criteria such as standards with international regulations, safety audits, age of the fleet, accidents… In 2022, Air New Zealand is therefore the safest airline in the world according to Airline Ratings.

There are several classifications regarding aviation safety. One of the benchmark rankings is that of the JACDEC (Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre), which published its ranking of the 20 safest airlines among the 60 largest companies in the world at the end of January 2018. This German organization assesses their reliability each year according to various criteria such as the age of the fleet, the number of destinations served, serious or minor incidents recorded in previous years, safety audits, but also the transparency of the companies, their turnover. business… This year, the top three are occupied by Emirates, Norwegian and Virgin Atlantic. Several airlines, including Air New Zealand and Hainan Airlines, respectively 2nd and 3rd last year, are disappearing from the rankings.

The JACDEC evaluates and ranks only 60 companies in this index. It should therefore be noted that even the 60th company may prove to be safer than others that were not evaluated in the study. It is not because it is last in this index that it should be considered dangerous, far from it… More than the classification stricto sensu, the German organization therefore calls for taking into account the overall score of the aerial actors (they can be found on this page). On our side, however, we have only retained the classification, which is easier to visualize for airline passengers.
