The streets of Germany were the scene of violence on New Year’s Eve. While many fireworks are traditionally set off in public places across the country to celebrate the New Year, police and fire brigades were attacked with fireworks in the capital Berlin. 30 police officers and 1 firefighter were injured in the incidents.

Hundreds of police officers from across the country were sent to the capital to prevent further violence. According to Berlin police spokesman Florian Nath, 330 people were detained in the capital on New Year’s Eve.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said in her statement that all perpetrators “will be tried and punished in the most severe way.”
