The sad reason Rick Grimes forgot his son

The sad reason Rick Grimes forgot his son

After The Walking Dead ends, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the most exciting spin-off in the zombie saga to date, will be released in a few weeks. There is finally a reunion with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after over 5 years. However, a lot has changed since he disappeared from the original series and the former series hero has changed sides.

The new trailer for The Ones Who Live promises lots of emotions and huge action. However, one detail could confuse The Walking fans: Did Rick Grimes forget his own son during his years away?

Why Rick Jr. isn’t mentioned in The Walking Dead trailer for The Ones Who Live

The trailer for the new The Walking Dead series offers Rick fans an emotional moment in which he looks at the most important people in his life remind. In a voice-over, he lists the reasons why he doesn’t give up after his capture by the Civic Republic Military and continues to fight through:

I’m for my wife decided. I’m for my daughter decided. I’m for my life decided.

Anyone who continued watching the original series after Rick’s exit at the beginning of season 9 will be suspicious at this moment. Didn’t Rick Grimes forget someone? Because Rick not only has a (foster) daughter named Judith (Cailey Fleming), but also Carl Grimes, who died in season 8 second son named Rick “RJ” Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor).

The reason why he doesn’t talk about his son is as simple as it is sad. Rick Grimes doesn’t even know he has another child. His wife Michonne (Danai Gurira) only found out she was pregnant after his disappearance. Nine months later, Rick Jr. was born, who at the end of the series lives with Judith in the Commonwealth and waits patiently to meet his father, the “brave man”, at some point.

As soon as the Grimes couple finds each other again in the spin-off The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead fans should prepare themselves for the tearful moment in which Rick finds out about the existence of his youngest son.

When does The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live start in Germany?

The new The Walking Dead series with Rick and Michonne will premiere in the USA on February 25, 2024 on the AMC channel. German fans don’t have to wait long. In this country, The Ones Who Live starts one day later, on February 26, 2024, on Magenta TV. The total of six episodes are published weekly.

If you would like to discover more The Walking Dead spin-offs, you can also do so on Magenta TV. There you can stream the three spin-off series Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
