The Russian representative at the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stirred up emotions during the UN meeting.
During Zelensky’s speech, he sat fiddling with his mobile phone.
Something that did not go unnoticed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke during the UN meeting on Tuesday – and expressed hope that Ukraine would be able to win over Russia in the war.
– One day we will be able to sit here and say that Russia’s war against Ukraine has come to an end, not that it has been put on hold or paused, but that it has ended. We have all the strength we need to make it happen.
But during the Ukrainian president’s speech, Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s representative to the UN, fiddled with his mobile phone – which disturbed many others in the room.
Britain’s Dick: Sitting on her phone
Even during the British Foreign Minister David Lammy’s speech, Nebenzya sat with his nose on the phone.
Lammy’s speech was aimed at Zelenskyj – and he took the opportunity to take a dig at Nebenzya.
– Mr. President, I speak not only as a Briton, as a Londoner and as Foreign Minister, but I say to the Russian representative, who is sitting on his phone while I speak, that I stand here as a black man whose ancestors were taken in chains from Africa at gunpoint and enslaved, whose ancestors rose up and fought in a great rebellion against imperialism, I recognize it when I see it, and I will call it what it is.
– So let me be clear. We want peace in Ukraine.
The Russian representative expressed displeasure
Vasily Nebenzya responded by calling the British minister’s speech “tainted rhetoric” and a “lecture on imperialism”. The Russian representative expressed displeasure with the entire gathering, which he believed was to benefit Ukraine.
– The only reason behind their (West, eds.) convening this meeting is to provide Volodymyr Zelenskyy with another concert stage at the UN and this time in the Security Council chamber.
