The Russian embassy comments on Sweden’s NATO process

After Hungary was the last country to approve Sweden’s NATO application, the last steps remain before Sweden becomes a full member of the military alliance. The Russian embassy in Sweden is now commenting on Sweden’s NATO process.

“Russia will take countermeasures of a political and military-technical nature in order to minimize threats to its national security. Their concrete content will depend on the conditions and extent of Sweden’s integration into NATO, including the possible deployment in this country of NATO troops, munitions and weapons,” writes the embassy on Telegram.

Despite the fact that all the steps for Sweden’s entry into NATO are not complete, the embassy writes that Sweden’s entry into NATO is in practice complete with the approval from the Hungarian parliament.

The embassy: The government wants to provoke Russia

In the message, the embassy also writes that a Swedish entry into NATO will affect the stability in the Swedish immediate area, but also points out that it is Sweden’s concern to choose its security policy.

“At the same time, the country’s entry into a military alliance that is hostile to Russia will have negative consequences for stability in Northern Europe and around the Baltic Sea, which remains our common area and will never become a ‘NATO sea,'” writes the embassy.

The embassy also writes that they believe that it is uncertain whether the decision is rooted among the Swedes and believes that there is political cowardice behind the decision. It is also believed that the Swedish government wants to “provocate Russia” at all costs and that Sweden’s development in the matter is deplored and a series of historical preferences are drawn.

“It is no coincidence that these fundamental values of Swedish politics were zealously protected by such world-famous and reputable Swedish statesmen as Per Albin Hansson, Tage Erlander, Olof Palme, Ingvar Carlsson and others,” writes the embassy.
