The Russian Duma approved a proposal for a law that would ban “propaganda” encouraging infertility | News in brief

On Tuesday, the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, approved a proposal for legislation that would in the future ban “propaganda” that encourages a childless lifestyle.

On Tuesday, it was the Duma’s third and final reading of the matter, and the country’s MPs voted unanimously in favor of the bill. According to the proposal, the law would in the future ban public materials in Russia, such as films and advertisements, that present a childless lifestyle as attractive.

This is the latest measure by which Russia is trying to eradicate from the country liberal thinking described as Western.

The proposal still needs to be approved by the Russian parliament’s upper house and the president Vladimir Putin approval before the law is formalized.
