The Russian authorities are tight lipped about the natural gas terminal

According to ‘s correspondent Heikki Heiskanen, Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on Russian soil have not had a very big impact on Russian society.

Russian authorities have been tight-lipped about the fire that broke out at the gas company Novatek’s natural gas terminal. This was reported by ‘s Russia correspondent Heikki Heiskanen Up in the morning.

– It has not been commented on particularly much here. It is, of course, quite embarrassing for the Russian leadership and security agencies that Ukraine can carry out such drone attacks until then, says Heiskanen.

A fire broke out in the natural gas terminal of the gas company Novatek, located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in Russia, between Saturday and Sunday. A drone strike is considered to be the cause of the fire, but aerial sightings have not been confirmed.

According to Ukraine, the drone attack on the terminal was carried out by the country’s security service.

According to Heiskanen, a state of heightened readiness has been declared for critical infrastructure sites in the Leningrad region surrounding St. Petersburg. Last week, the St. Petersburg oil terminal was also hit by an airplane attack.

Novatek is Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer. According to Heiskanen, it is difficult to assess how extensive the event will have on the company’s operations. The fire makes it difficult to use the terminal, but according to Heiskanen’s information, the company also has terminals on the other side of the bay and in the Arctic region.

Recently, Ukraine has carried out several drone attacks on Russian soil, including in the Moscow region. According to Heiskanen, the cases have not had a great impact on Russian society, as the authorities have been silent about what happened.

– The Russian authorities do not want to raise too high a number of them, because of course they would arouse concern among the citizens, Heiskanen commented.
