The Ukrainian army claimed this Monday, April 29, to have “repelled 55 attacks” in several localities in the Donetsk region. Among them Otcheretyne, where violent fighting was reported on Sunday. A village located north of the town of Avdiïvka, taken by Russian soldiers last February.

Since then, Moscow’s forces have advanced deeper into the Donetsk region. kyiv notably claimed that the enemy army had attempted “15 times to break through the defenses” of Ukrainian troops, thanks to “aircraft support”. The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Syrsky, said on Sunday that his men had withdrawn to new defensive positions further west in certain sectors.

Moscow claims the capture of two new villages

On Sunday April 28, Moscow claimed the capture of the village of Novobakhmoutivka, in an area where Moscow’s forces have advanced rapidly over the past week in the face of a defensive Ukrainian army. “Through active operations, units of the Central Group of Forces liberated the village of Novobakhmutivka,” located northwest of the town of Avdiivka captured by Moscow in February, the Russian Defense Ministry said in its report daily.

The Russian army also claimed Monday the capture of a new village, Semenivka, located in a sector of the east of the country. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that it had “liberated” this locality, northwest of Avdiivka, a fortress town taken by Moscow in February.
