German Sara and Sofia Benfares were both caught using the epo hormone.

A strange doping case has come to light in Germany, when two athletes from the same family have been caught using doping. 22 years old Sara Benfares recently received a five-year ban.

Benfares was subjected to three doping tests during the half, during which no less than five different prohibited substances were found in the woman’s body. Benfares had used, among other things, the hormone epo. All of his performance from September last year to January this year has been voided.

Benfares finished 12th in the 5,000 meters in Eugene at the World Athletics Championships two years ago.

In February, it was reported that the runner’s 19-year-old sister Sofia Benfares has also been caught using the epo hormone. He won bronze at last year’s under-20 World Championships.

Father of the sisters Samir Benfares has claimed that Sara Benfares had received the substances in question from cancer treatments used against bone cancer.

What made the situation strange was that the German Athletics Federation had not known about the cancer. At the beginning of the year, however, the woman showed pictures of her recovery on Instagram.

– These have been my daily routines for a year already. I am tired of justifying my treatments to the authorities, Benfares reportedly commented.

on NRK working as an expert Vebjörn Rodal is wondering about the family’s communication in the doping case.

– The coach and father have not been very transparent about this. It’s even scary.

The Benfares sisters have both German and French citizenship and train on the French side. The athletes who represented the German LC Rehlinger were both kicked out of the club after the doping cases came to light.
