When the verdict was announced, in the middle of the night, Rédoine Faïd, 51, gave a slight smile. The robber was sentenced to 14 years in prison for his escape from prison, a more lenient sentence than that required by the prosecution which required 22 years.
For his lawyer Marie Violleau, it will now be necessary to improve his conditions of detention because “ 14 years is not nothing “. “ It is not because we reduce requisitions which were disproportionate by eight years that we can be satisfied with anything. And when we know what he will find in terms of detention conditions… 14 years, plus what he still has to do, it’s enormous », she adds.
In France, the law requires that a sentence imposed for escape should not be confused with other sentences. Thus, for her robbery, Rédoine Faid was to be released from prison in 2046. These 14 years are now added. He should therefore be free in 2060. He will then be 88 years old.
His brother, Rachid, who admitted to having climbed into the helicopter and sawing down the prison gates, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
This spectacular escape shocked the entire country when on the morning of July 1, 2018, in “7 minutes 33”, the commando threw smoke bombs, forced the doors with a grinder and extracted the robber. The helicopter took off to the applause of the detainees, without a shot being fired, the robber and his defense insisted.
