The Rings of Power has been hiding the next big Lord of the Rings reveal right in front of our eyes for 2 seasons

The Rings of Power has been hiding the next big

The second season of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ended a week ago. Accordingly, all fans’ eyes are on the almost certain third season, which will present Galadriel, Sauron, Elrond and Co. with new challenges. But a minor character in the current season could ultimately significantly steer the fortunes of Middle-earth if we come to an exciting theory Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) give faith.

Lord of the Rings theory: A great fate awaits Theo in season 3 and beyond

Theo has appeared in 9 of the 16 episodes of The Rings of Power to date. We learned about him as early as episode 1 of season 1 Son of Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi) and Boys of the Southlands know who was temporarily seduced by a dark sword. In Season 2, Theo tries to find his place in the port city of Pelargir when he’s not spying on wildlings, being captured by Ents, or sharing the pain of lost mothers with Isildur (Maxim Baldry).

Theo matures so much into a leader in Season 2 that Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) even calls him the “Lord of Pelargir” before Númenor villain Kemen (Leon Wadham) shows up in the finale and takes the title for himself. But Theo’s career, especially at the end, contains many indications of his future:

  • In the past, audiences saw him as potential Nazgûli.e. human king, who is ultimately seduced into becoming a ringwraith by Sauron’s rings.
  • Others read it as King of the Deadwho during his lifetime refuses to help in the Battle of the Last Alliance and ultimately makes up for this debt to Aragorn with his ghost army.
  • The latest theory, however, goes in a different direction and paints Theo as Founder of Rohanwho will one day bring the rider kingdom of the Rohirrim into being.
  • Theo becomes the founder of Rohan – and The Rings of Power has been hiding it in his name since episode 1

In the Moviepilot interview, Tyroe Muhafidin explained that a big appeal of his role is playing a new character without a predetermined path. He revealed that the series creators Keeping Theo’s path a secret even from his actor and that he would likely get himself into trouble by publicly speculating. We, on the other hand, can speculate without fear about a great fate based on the serial breadcrumbs scattered – and there is currently a lot of evidence that Theo will at some point found the equestrian state of Rohan.

Since the Gandalf reveal and the Sauron clues, we’ve known that the Lord of the Rings series likes to hide its biggest mysteries in plain sight. The most obvious clue to Theo’s legacy may therefore lie in the teenager’s name, which many fans denounced as strangely modern at the start of the fantasy series. But what if this one Name chosen on purpose became? Theo’s name could later appear in the name of King Theothat (and that of his son Theodred) stuck while the suffix wyn from Theo’s mother Bronwyn then turns into Théoden’s daughter Eowyn finds again.

The name vowels E and O have been in the family since the official Rohan founder Eorl, also known as “the boy”. And even if, according to Tolkien, Eorl brings the riders northwest of Gondor into existence in the Third Age of Middle-earth, while The Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, the series is known not to take the chronology of Middle-earth very precisely. So she could meet Theo as early as season 3 Path to your own people before the Third Age begins in season 5 after the Battle of the Last Alliance and the victory there over Sauron.

Reddit user TheGent_88 also explains that a close friendship was established between Isildur and Theo in season 2, which later developed in the Alliance of Gondor and Rohan could knock down. Under the impending oppression from Númenor, the southerners, who were labeled “lower people” by Kemen, could unite looking for a new home – perhaps even close to Theo’s old acquaintances, the Ents, whose home forest of Fangorn later borders the Rohirrim empire. After his mother emerged as leader in Season 1, it looks like he’ll be following in her footsteps in Season 2.

With Isildur’s left behind Horse Berek Theo would even have a mount to bring the riders into life. Let’s then add that the… Identity of Theo’s father is still unclear, but according to showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay it will still be important, there are almost too many clues not to believe in Theo’s Rohan fate. Hopefully season 3 will bring more clarity.
