The reward for Armand Duplantis after the world record – back at the top of the most powerful list

It was a world record that he longed for so incredibly much.
Armand Duplantis is now being rewarded.
The Swede takes over first place on the mighty list again – and no one can be surprised.

Armand Duplantis had set a clear goal to achieve during the outdoor season: In addition to winning World Cup gold and the Diamond League, he also wanted to break his own world record for the seventh time. Armand Duplantis jumped 6.22 in February, immediately setting up hopes of beating it once more before the year is out, but it would be a while.

Incredible summer

It didn’t help that Armand Duplantis didn’t win a race for the first time in just over a year, when he finished fourth in Monaco. Armand Duplantis then had a problem with a thigh that spasmed and wobbled, and it hampered him even in the coming weeks, making the world record attempts fewer and fewer. Despite that, it was WC gold and continued dominance in the Diamond League.

And in the end, the much-anticipated world record also arrived. In the last big competition of the season, Duplantis raised the bar from 6.01 all the way up to 6.23 – and with his first jump he broke the world record for the eighth time in his career. It was impossible to miss how much it meant to Mondo, and he is said to be rewarded with a hefty million bonus from sponsors. But it also leads to first place on a list that Mondo certainly missed topping.

Back on top

In the official list of the world’s best male track and field athletes, Duplantis was completely dominant for a long time. He topped the list for just over three years, but over the summer he lost first place, and he has even been down to third. But now order has been restored. This weekend’s Diamond League win – and the world record – means that Duplantis now moves up to number one.

Armand Duplantis has had the ball star Ryan Crouser in front of him, but now Mondo is number one, and there is little evidence that he will lose that place, as he almost never loses competitions, as long as his body is healthy.

At the same time, Daniel Ståhl loses places on the list, as he goes from being ranked 19th to 26th.
