Charlotte Baris: It is Sunday November 12, 2023, the rain has just stopped and the crowds are starting to flock to the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris. From the National Assembly to the Senate, a march is being organized against the rise of anti-Semitism in France. Some demonstrators hold French flags in their hands, but no Israeli flag.

Soon, there were 105,000 marching through the streets of the capital. The two organizers, Yaël Braun-Pivet and Gérard Larcher, the presidents of the two chambers, are there. Alongside them, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, former Prime Ministers and several elected officials. But there is one big person missing. After some hesitation, Emmanuel Macron decided not to go to the rally.

The President of the Republic considers that his place is elsewhere: he prefers to write a letter to the French. And the far right is taking the spotlight. Since October 7, Marine Le Pen’s party has taken advantage of the clear-cut positions of rebellious France to continue its work of demonization. How did the attack of October 7 shake up the French political landscape? This is what we tell you in this episode.
