The response after Brendan Shinnimin’s harsh outing against the referees in the SHL

Brendan Shinnimin feels unfairly treated in the SHL.
He feels bullied by the Swedish judiciary.
Now referee base Tomas Thorsbrink gives his answer to the mischief.

Ever since Brendan Shinnimin came to the SHL, he has been a thorn in the side of many. With his rock-hard style of play and his teasing behavior on the ice, there has been a lot of attention directed at the Canadian.

Shinnimin annoyed

Shinnimin has become a real watershed among supporters and supporters both in Växjö and Luleå. When Skellefteå AIK met Luleå on Tuesday evening, he ended up in the hot air again.

Immediately after the match, Brendan Shinnimin directed clear criticism at the entire refereeing team in the SHL and expressed that he felt bullied. Especially after a situation with Pär Lindholm where he was expelled again.
– I first get a crosschecking against the kidney, then a slewfoot, then a crosschecking when I was lying on the ice and then a blow to the face. I don’t really have words for that situation but I don’t understand how we both got the same amount of suspension minutes, Shinnimin told local newspaper NSD.
– Will I be punished for competing too hard? Will I be penalized for playing too well? I don’t know. The referees have a job and should make decisions about what happens on the ice, not decisions depending on who it is. I feel like a target out there. I feel bullied.

The referee’s response

The SHL prank then broke down after a question about his parents, who were there to watch the hockey game.
– They live to see me play. It’s a shame that my parents have to see me being treated like this. I don’t want it to be about me but…. I love playing in front of my parents, Brendan said.

Now gives the league referee base Tomas Thorsbrink his first words about Shinnimin’s antics against the judges.
– There have been many discussions since yesterday. There will be a little play out every now and then. We handle everyone equally, so to speak. We discuss situations and such things that have been up. We never talk about people, but more about situations and events. We do that every week, he tells Expressen.

“Doesn’t work like that”

Thorsbrink is clear that all hockey players in the SHL are treated the same, according to the regulations.
– When they come onto the ice, our playbook applies and our regulations are the basis for the decisions and nothing else, regardless of which player it is. But before a match, you talk through, tendencies about what might happen, the linesmen talk about whether they have a “scorer” that they usually have problems with or whatever it may be. All that stuff is talked about, and I don’t see it as strange, he says in the interview.

Referee manager Tomas Thorsbrink does not believe that Brendan Shinnimin is being bullied by the refereeing corps in the SHL.
– What he says and what he thinks, I cannot review that. It doesn’t work like that. From the side of the judges, they must act completely neutral and impartial in everything. I assume and assume that everyone does all the time. But there are many players who keep coming up from match to match, and what happened. Then we have to, otherwise we wouldn’t have done our job, prepare for a match, he says to the evening newspaper.
