The researcher critical of the use of Cytotec during childbirth: “Really a questionable method”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Helena Lindgren is researching the role of midwives and better methods that can reduce the risk of vaginal ruptures, and she herself has had bad experiences with the preparation.

– It is really a questionable method and my first meeting with Cytotec was terrible. When I spoke to the midwives in Stockholm who this fall had to start Cytotec because the alternative, Angusta, ran out, they get sick to their stomachs from having to start a mother on that preparation, because they have seen more side effects than before, says Helena Lindgren.

Economically favorable

Charlotte Elvander, midwife, board member of the Swedish Association of Midwives, says that Cytotec is a cheaper variant of Angusta that is manufactured to start labor.

Is it an economic issue that Västernorrland’s maternity care chooses to use Cytotec?

– Yes absolutely. But Cytotec is not approved for use in Sweden in that way, but it has always been used and it is a matter of having to mix it correctly.
