The rescuer’s criticism: “The stop on the E22 could have been shortened by several hours”

Close to 1,000 cars were covered in snow on the E22 between Hörby and Kristianstad on January 3. Many sat in their cars all night and morning before they could be evacuated.

Donald Pihlblad, who runs a large salvage company with operations in, among other places, Helsingborg, is sure that the situation would have been completely different if the work had started immediately.

– Then the stop would have been significantly shorter. Hard to say exactly, but we are talking about a many, many hours shorter stop. It doesn’t usually work like this. This time, something has completely failed, he says.

You make a living by salvaging cars: Aren’t you speaking for yourself when you say that salvagers should have been sent out immediately?

– If we started right away, maybe a few hours of work would have been enough. Now it turned out that we salvaged for over a day.

At the moment, the Swedish Transport Administration does not want to comment on Donald Pihlblad’s criticism, but refers to the evaluations to be made by the Swedish Transport Administration and the County Administrative Board in Skåne.

– These are exactly the kinds of things we should look at. It is clear that we are not satisfied, but I am sure that we will be able to find out why it turned out the way it did, says Roberto Maiorana, director general at the Swedish Transport Administration.
