A new step came from the Biden administration after the recent experiments and studies in the space field by China and Russia.
According to a written statement from the White House, Biden has laid out a new strategy to address his concerns in the areas of civil, commercial and national security in space.
HARRIS IS APPOINTED HEAD OF THE NATIONAL SPACE COUNCIL
Biden, who instructed the National Space Council to meet in the coming days, appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to head the Council.
In addition to Harris, the council will include US Secretary of State, Defense, Interior and Biden’s advisers in areas such as national security, economy and domestic policy.
At that meeting, Harris is expected to request government bodies to “form and develop rules and norms for responsible behavior in space.”
THE TIMING OF THE DECISION ATTRACTED ATTENTION
The fact that this step of the Biden administration came at a time when China was testing hypersonic weapons and the Washington administration was voicing its concerns about Russia’s development of anti-satellite weapons was interpreted as “taking the competition with the USA, China and Russia into space”.
