The Reinmarks Committee’s proposal stuck to the ministry: “Going into limbo”

In the plains committee’s partial report, which was submitted in June, there is an outline of a final report that would give Sami villages the right to decide on hunting and fishing in their areas. That at the same time as they would have an obligation to let others hunt and fish when it does not seriously interfere with reindeer husbandry.

Three of the Tidöparties, M, KD and SD, reserved themselves and a majority consisting of S, MP, V, C – and the Tidöpartiet L – voted for the partial report and the sketch to be sent out for referral.

“Ending up in limbo”

But not much has happened since then. According to information to Today’s news the officials at the government office have finished preparing the matter, but a referral has still not been sent out despite meetings last week. That makes Jakob Olofsgård (L) in the Renmarkskommittee frustrated.

He believes that M, KD and SD want to stop the entire investigation by delaying it.

– We and the investigation end up in limbo. They just say no, but don’t give any alternative, It’s a sensitive issue that won’t win any elections. But we cannot turn a blind eye to the Girja Cathedral and we need a broad political solution to this tense situation, he tells DN.

The moderates’ committee member John Widegren voted against the interim report. He does not want the proposal to be sent out for referral.

– I think it should be like before the Girjasdomen: that the state gives everyone the right to fish and hunt. I don’t want to give exclusivity to the Sami villages, he says to DN.

When and if the proposal will be sent out for consultation is unclear. Peter Kullgren’s press secretary replies in a text message to DN that “The question is being prepared.”
