The Guinness Book of World Records permanently stripped Bob of the record, because according to it, the dog’s age could not be reliably verified.
Bobi, named the world’s longest-lived dog, died last October. It was said to have been 31 years and 165 days old when it died. Bobi was a Portuguese, purebred Alentejo dog.
Six months before Bob’s death, the Guinness Book of Records had named it the world’s oldest dog. The age was confirmed from the Portuguese pet database maintained by the National Veterinary Association.
Now the Guinness Book of Records has finally packed up and taken the title from Bob. It comments for the BBCthat Bob’s microchip was not a strong enough proof of the dog’s age after all.
The Guinness Book of World Records has not yet decided which dog it thinks the title really belongs to.
