The reason is a real crime
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings back some characters from the first film. But not all of them: The main characters from part 1, the Maitland couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis in the original), are only mentioned in a side sentence. And Charles Deetz, the father of Winona Ryder’s character, only appears in animated form and without a head. As if there were a problem with actor Jeffrey Jones. That’s exactly how it is. Beetlejuice star Jeffrey Jones was convicted of a crime in 2003

Jones is no stranger to Hollywood cinema in the 80s and 90s. In addition to Beetlejuice, he has appeared in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Hunt for Red October and The Devil’s Advocate. Due to a Conviction Much of his career ended in the early 2000s.

Jeffrey Jones was arrested in 2002 for possessing child pornography and 14-year-old boy coerced to pose for explicit photographs. He denied the first charge and pleaded no contest to the second. In 2003, he was finally sentenced to five years’ probation and a lifetime sex offender record, the LA Times reported at the time. In the years that followed, Jones was arrested twice for failing to update his information on the sex offender registry.

Jeffrey Jones last appeared in a film in 2019

After his conviction, Jeffrey Jones made a few appearances in series and films such as Deadwood and Who’s Your Caddy. His last appearance to date was a guest role in the 2019 HBO film Deadwood: The Movie. He does not appear in Beetlejuice 2: the death of his character Charles Deetz is shown in animated form, and his corpse is missing its head after a murderous shark attack.

At the time of this writing, Tim Burton has not commented on Jones’ absence from Beetlejuice.
