The re -burial in Rounal is pushed forward again

At the beginning of the 20th century, the remains, Sami who were buried in sometime during the 1300s to the 17th century, were buried from Ruonal cemetery.

After a long process, the government approved in December 2022, following the requirement of the Sami Parliament, that the eighteen remains should be returned by Uppsala University for re -burial.

But since then not much has happened. The remains would be buried in August last year but when there was no money for the ceremony, the plans were shot until this year. And now the Sami Parliament notes that there is still no money to implement it. Therefore, the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten deprecates the case, reports Samiradion.

The budget for the re -burial is SEK 473,000, the Sami Parliament noted last year.

– It is not the Sami Parliament that will pay but the perpetrator side that will be responsible for the cost. It is a fairly large process associated with large costs, Lars-Jonas Johansson, member of the Sami Parliament, told SVT Sápmi last year.
