The race in Brno returns to the World Championship program

The race in Brno will return to the World Cup program next year after many years.

Next year, the World Series of Track Motorcycling will be held again in the Czech Republic, when the legendary race held in Brno returns to the World Championship program after many years.

In Brno, the World Championship points were raced for the first time in 1965, after which the competition has been part of the World Championship series, except for a few interruptions. After 2020, Brno has not been raced for World Championship points, but the World Series announced on its website on Wednesday about the five-race agreement covering the seasons 2025–2029.

– Motorcycle racing has a long tradition in Brno, stretching back to the 1950s at the Masaryk track. MotoGP is a big event and brings tens of thousands of people to the Czech Republic, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala told in the bulletin.

The Czechoslovak GP, once held on the Masaryk track, is also a significant piece in the history of Finnish track motorcycling. Jarno Saarinen throttled his first 350cc World Championship victory in Brno in 1971 and won the race again in 1972, when he was also the best in the 250cc. Teuvo Länsivuori won the 350cc competition in 1973.

After the times of “Tepi” Länsivuori and “Baroni” Saarinen, who died in Monza in 1973, the Brno circuit has been renovated. The current track Automotodrom Brno was included in the WC program for the first time in 1987.

About the Finnish riders of later times Mika Kallio won the Moto2 class of the World Championship in Brno in 2013.
