Maria Gergi in Motala has longed for a dachshund for several years. The name Roger was decided a long time ago.
When the County Administrative Board in Östergötland put 13 of the 125 dogs in care up for sale, she sent in an application – and was selected from over 800 applicants.
– We went to a dog farm and had to wait outside a fence. There were more people there to pick up their puppies. Then we got him in our arms, says Maria Gergi.
Roger was only a few weeks old when he was taken into care and still a puppy. Several dogs have been euthanized by the County Administrative Board, but 13 were put up for sale where 800 applied. Watch Maria talk about the incident in the clip above.
Great care in Linköping
It was on August 16 that police and staff from the County Administrative Board in Östergötland took immediate care of 125 dogs at a kennel outside Linköping. It is the biggest concern that the authority has made regarding dogs.
SVT Nyheter Öst has previously reported that the County Administrative Board has received reports about the kennel for 14 years. The authority carried out an inspection on the farm in 2018, but even though the reports continued, it took six years for the next inspection. Back then, many dogs were in such bad condition that they had to be euthanized.
