the province of Moyen Ogooue affected by heavy flooding

In Gabon, the rain continues to do great damage. On October 21, in Libreville, seven people from the same family died following a landslide. And the situation is currently very worrying in the center of the country, particularly in the province of Moyen-Ogooué, of which Lambaréné is the capital. In this province, all the towns and villages are flooded.

With our correspondent in Libreville, Yves-Laurent Goma

In a video posted on social networks, a resident of Lambaréné takes a tour of the city in a canoe. Camera in hand, he films the damage. Houses are flooded, toilets and kitchens are submerged, and schools and churches are closed.

From now on, the main means of transport in almost all neighborhoods is the canoe. Cars can no longer drive. In a statement, the government said that 23 out of 24 neighborhoods in Lambaréné are flooded. It’s the same thing in the town of Ndjolé where the large fuel depot that supplies the north of the country is experiencing supply difficulties. The city of Makouké where there is a large palm grove is also affected.

The national road number 2 which connects Libreville to Yaoundé in Cameroon threatens to collapse in various places due to landslides. Traffic is slow there. Today, health authorities fear the risk of a cholera epidemic. And the government has promised its aid to the victims. He argues that this abundant rainfall is the consequence of climate change.
