The Coventry City player suffered multiple fractures of the tibia and fibula in the 1995-1996 season in an unfortunate incident with Denis Irwin, a Manchester United player. He had to be operated on 10 times in 12 days and had a serious staph infection. Infections were removed from football, as he had to undergo surgery a total of 26 times.
