The prosecutor reduced the penalty requirement for the Hollywood actress Alec Baldwin in the indictment filed against, says The New York Times (you are moving to another service).
Baldwin is accused by the photographer Halyna Hutchins wrongful death.
Hutchins was killed by a bullet fired by Baldwin on the set of Rust in the fall of 2021. Baldwin thought the gun was safe.
According to Baldwin’s attorneys, the charges were wrongly filed based on New Mexico’s current gun law, which was not in effect at the time.
In the new law, the prison sentence is a minimum of five years, but according to the previous one a maximum of 18 months – if Baldwin is found guilty.
According to the newspaper, the prosecutor agreed to the demand “to avoid more quarrelsome disturbances”.
