The prosecutor about the suspected murder in Skinnskatteberg

On Thursday, the police found two small children and a woman dead in a car. The police’s hypothesis is that the woman shot the children and then herself.
– I want to say that it is extremely unusual, says prosecutor Carl-Johan Norström.

It was at 21.20 last Thursday that the police received the alarm that relatives had been looking for a woman and two small children. The woman must have had some type of relationship with the children.

– The circumstances surrounding this caused the police to speed up and send up a police helicopter. It was learned that the woman had a mobile phone with her, which could then be located to this car, says prosecutor Carl-Johan Norström, who leads the investigation.

The police found the car in a wooded area in Skinnskatteberg.

– Three dead people were found with gunshot wounds. Two very small children and a woman. A firearm was also found in the car.

“Strengthened our hypothesis”

During Saturday, the police held interviews and continued the technical investigation. The hypothesis that prosecutors and the police are working on is that the woman first shot the children and then shot herself.

– There is currently nothing to indicate that there is another person involved.

The woman was not previously known to the police. Prosecutor Carl-Johan Norström does not want to go into details of the relationship the woman and the children had, nor why the police launched such a large effort when the children were reported missing.

“Extremely unusual”

As the suspected woman is deceased, it is likely that the preliminary investigation will be closed after the technical investigations have been completed, says Norström.

It is an extremely rare case.

– You are taken by the seriousness of the moment. I know a lot more than you do and I can’t tell you about that, but that’s why I say it’s extremely unusual, and so gross.
