The prosecutor about the infiltrator: “They have been friends”

The 35-year-old is suspected of having murdered his mother with an ax twelve years ago. According to the prosecutor, the motive must be financial.

An infiltrator from NOA, the police’s national operational branch, has approached the man by forming a friendship with him.

The trial in Växjö district court is therefore largely closed to the public as the police worked undercover. The district court does not want to reveal the identity of the infiltrator and how the working method itself works.

– , says prosecutor Emma Berge.

“It’s about building a relationship”

It is unique of its kind in Småland’s criminal history – to use infiltration to obtain new evidence in a cold case of murder, and that it later leads to prosecution, according to Emma Berge.

The prosecutor does not want to reveal how long the secret operation lasted, but it is clear that the infiltrator managed to develop a close relationship with the man over a longer period. Through their conversation, the investigation had a breakthrough, and new evidence could be presented.

– An infiltration involves the police covertly creating a relationship with a person in order to obtain information, that’s the scheme.

The man has denied the accusations in questioning.
