There have been many trips around the public toilets in Örebro. In autumn 2021, several toilets were temporarily closed, for safety reasons.
During the spring, the municipality took measures, in the form of shorter opening hours and patrolling guards.
There has also been an investigation into the toilets, which has now resulted in a proposal, by the municipal board administration. According to the proposal, only five of the twelve toilets in central Örebro should remain.
– It means that we make an investment in safety, accessibility and attractiveness of the public toilets that are proposed to remain, but that we also close some of them where the problem is the greatest, says John Johansson (S), chairman of the municipal board in Örebro.
Want to collaborate with stores
One of the toilets that, according to the proposal, will disappear is the one on Järntorget. According to John Johansson (S), it is basically a financial issue, so that the municipality can invest more in security around the toilets that will remain. The municipality wants to review the possibility of entering into a partnership with the private business community.
– So, for example, you should be able to use the toilet in restaurants and shops in exchange for the shop owner being able to receive compensation from the municipality for operation and maintenance.
