Are you an engineer and want a higher salary? Then it might be worth settling in Skåne. According to a new analysis from Swedish Engineers Namely, it is the engineering salaries for those who live in Skåne County that have increased the most in recent years. There, it is easier for Danish companies to offer high wages, which has caused Scanian employers to raise their own wages in order to keep their employees.

Salary increase of approximately SEK 8,000 per month

Between 2021 and 2023, engineering salaries have increased between 8.6 and 11.1 percent, depending on where in the country you live. The biggest increase has been in Skåne, where salaries have increased by 11.1 percent, which corresponds to a sum of SEK 7,993 if you previously had a salary of SEK 55,000. That is approximately SEK 96,000 more per year. This is 7.6 percent more than the national average.

It is common for engineers to choose to work in Denmark, where an engineer earns an average of SEK 200,000 more per year than in Sweden.

– It is of the utmost importance for Sweden’s future that we can offer competitive conditions, says the chairman of the Confederation of Swedish Engineers, Ulrika Lindstrandsaid in a comment to The newspaper Näringslivet.

Wages have also increased in Dalarna and Västerbotten due to demand, but even though Skåne and other regions have had large wage increases, it is still in Stockholm County that engineers earn the most. There, civil engineers earn around SEK 67,700.
