The Prison and Probation Service has decided to place just over half of the approximately 20,000 employees.
The decision concerns about 11,000 employees. This is the first time in a very long time that war placement is being implemented within the Prison and Probation Service, the authority writes in a press release, and flags that more employees may be covered later.
According to the law, no more persons should be placed in war than is required to run the business planned in war.

USA: Our ships sail free in Panama
The United States claims that its government vessels should be allowed to sail free through the Panama Canal, following pressure from President Donald Trump.
“US state vessels can now pass the Panama Canal without fees, which saves the US government millions of dollars a year,” the US Foreign Ministry writes in a post on X.
Trump has threatened a military effort to regain control of the channel, as he believes that US vessels passing it may pay “ridiculous” fees, as well as accusations that China should have gained influence over the important maritime road.
Panama President José Raúl Mulino has excluded to negotiate the channel’s ownership at all.

Niger orders the Red Cross to leave the country
The governing military junta in Niger has ordered the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) to leave the country immediately, says a source.
Niger must have “completed his agreements” with ICRC and some foreign staff have begun to leave the West African country. According to the source, the organization has also closed its office in the capital Niamey on Tuesday – which is also reported by Nigerian media.
No reason for the decision has been stated.
The Red Cross has been working in Niger since 1990 and has recently focused on help to people who have fallen victim to violence performed by jihadist groups with links to the terrorist movements al-Qaeda and IS.
