    Negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza war will resume next week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s staff said.

    The announcement comes after an Israeli negotiating delegation with Mossad chief David Barnea returned to Israel from Qatar on Friday.

    “We agreed that next week Israeli negotiators will travel to Doha to continue the talks. There is still distance between the parties,” a spokesman for Netanyahu’s staff said in a statement.

    The United States, together with Qatar and Egypt, has been trying to push through an agreement and has emphasized the importance of Netanyahu’s decision to send a delegation to Qatar. The United States believes that Israel and Hamas have a “fairly significant opportunity” to reach an agreement, according to a senior American official.

  • Man threatened with knife on playground

    At around 8 p.m., the police received an alert that a 45-year-old man had threatened another man with a knife at a playground in Ronna in Södertälje.

    The man was attacked and slightly injured, according to Aftonbladet’s information.

    He was able to get indoors himself and was later taken to hospital by ambulance.

    The designated perpetrator could be found not far away, and was calmly arrested at the scene.

    The police are investigating the incident as serious assault and unlawful threats.

    The Russian opposition politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in a penal colony, has been taken to hospital. According to his wife, Jevgenija Kara-Murza, his lawyers have been denied access to him and she is concerned about his state of health.

    The Kremlin critic, who is both a Russian and a British citizen, suffers from a nervous disorder after being poisoned in 2015 and 2017, which is believed to have been carried out by Russia’s FSB security service.

    Kara-Murza was sentenced in April 2023 to 25 years in prison for treason after denouncing Russia’s war of invasion against Ukraine, the single harshest sentence handed down to a Kremlin critic in modern Russia.

    Since September 2023, he has been serving his sentence in a high-security prison in Omsk in western Siberia. In May of this year, Kara-Murza was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her previous columns in The Washington Post.

    A man has been beaten by another man in central Malmö.
