The Prime Minister on the electricity crisis: “The situation is relatively acute”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The government is asking Swedish households to save on electricity, for example by lowering the heat indoors. It is about reducing the risk of households needing to be disconnected from the grid due to a lack of electricity. The situation is relatively urgent, says the prime minister.

While the freezing temperatures and winter cold have tightened their grip on Sweden and made electricity record high, a serious prime minister stood in front of the cameras on Friday morning.

– The situation is relatively urgent, we do not want to create panic in any way, but we want to say that this is a difficult problem and that there are significant risks, says Ulf Kristersson (M), at the press conference

This is how supply must be secured

The government shared its concern, but did not provide any news about when the electricity price support for households will arrive, or what compensation the government wants to give the companies.

In order to secure electricity supply in the future, Svenska kraftnät signs agreements with cogeneration plants. On Thursday, it was announced that it had signed an agreement with Göteborg Energi regarding the Rya combined heat and power plant, thereby securing access to up to 250 MW in southwestern Sweden until March 2023.
