Ulf Kristersson has previously said that he was preparing for a conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump. Several leaders around the world have already had telephone contact with the future American president, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
But now Sweden’s prime minister has also had a first conversation with the president-elect. The two of them are said to have spoken to each other on Monday afternoon.
It is not yet known which issues Kristersson has chosen to raise with Trump, but he has previously raised three risks with the upcoming presidency, including the US’s future support for Ukraine.
– There is no issue that has the same existential significance for countries in our part of the world as Ukraine, he said the day after the presidential election.
